Feathers (Chapters): Prologue |First

------------------------------------------------------------------

 FIRST FEATHER: MEMORIES

“Wings, disappearing feather by feather are like forgetting life, memory by memory…”

His eyes travelled around the room, learning everything if possible. Everything was so new to him yet familiar. Slowly, he took his steps inside the room or rather the apartment to be precise. “You live here, Ninomiya-kun?” asked the dazed man.

Nino rolled his eyes and sighed. Surely, wasn’t it obvious? He didn’t want to think rudely of the stranger but this guy gave him a lot of headache already. He closed first the door and glanced to him before replying, “Hai~” though he couldn’t remove the hint of irritation in his voice. He took a deep breathe. He was clueless on how to handle this kind of situations, “But it couldn’t be help…” he thought remembering h0w the stranger save him just now. And that included the memory of the wings in the strangers back. “…it’s just your imagination Ninomiya Kazunari!” he scolded his own self dozens of times. Again, he remembered how the stranger ended up going home with him.

<FLASHBACK>

“After all, angel’s wings fitted him.” As soon as Nino’s eyes landed back to the eyes of those who saved him, suddenly, “Chotto matte…”

Thug!

“Ugh!” Nino groaned when he landed his back flat on the cement floor of the road and a weight was pressed into him. He pushed softly a bit the stranger so he could sit up. He held his shoulders and started shaking the guy. “Oi! Oi! Daijobu? Oi!” but what surprised him most was …

SNOOOORE!

“EH?”

-----------------------------------------------

Nino obliged to the instructions of the doctor as the doctor tried to check-up on him. “Hmm, it seems there isn’t any damage at all Ninomiya-kun. But please remember to be careful ne?” the doctor reprimanded.

Nino nodded and mouthed politely, “Hai!” then looked to the man sleeping to the next bed from where he was sitting at. “Anou, sensei?” He called for the doctor who was just filling up papers about Nino’s condition.

“Yes?”

“How about him?” Nino asked, pointing his lips towards the sleeping stranger.

“Well, he’s quite a heavy sleeper. Before checking on you, I have checked him first to know if he has a trauma or something that causes him to faint but no sign at all. He is just sleeping.” The doctor replied. Nino raised any eyebrow trying to think for a while.

“Ninomiya-san! Houtoni gomenne.” The driver of the vehicle apologized as soon as he arrived in the emergency room. He bowed several times, mouthing dozens of apologies towards his unintentionally victim.

Nino waved his hand in front of him and shook his head with, “It is okay, Sir. It’s an accident. It seems there’s no damage sir. I’m perfectly fine.” Nino assured the panicking driver.

“But your friend there…” the driver pointed to the sleeping stranger, hesitantly yet worriedly. Nino did the same. Friend? Sure, he never saw the guy or did he?

“Go men, but he’s not my friend. Actually, I don’t know the guy at all.” Nino responded as his eyes still didn’t left the sleeping figure.

-----------------------------------------------

Nino could finally the premises of the hospital after he was checked by the doctor but he chose to stay. He didn’t know why but he couldn’t leave the oddly sleeping stranger.

“He sure is a heavy sleeper.” The doctor commented and Nino could only chuckle. Not really because of the doctor’s comment but rather the look on the stranger’s face while sleeping.

“Cute.” He mumbled. Sub-consciously, Nino’s hand lifted forward, reaching for the tanned face. With the back of his forefinger as the other fingers close together, he carefully traced the stranger’s jaw line.

Nino gasped surprisingly when the stranger’s eyes flung open. He quickly retreated his arms and opened his mouth to speak but no words were spoken. The stranger sat up slowly and then looked back to Nino. His eyes quite half open yet it showed how intently he looked to Nino.

“W-What’s your name?” the first question Nino could speak out of countless of questions he wanted to ask. The stranger cringed his nose and his forehead while his eyes shut close. As soon as he opened it, Nino took a step-forward in anticipation but restrain his self that he might scare the latter.

The stranger looked back to him and shook his head. “I- I can’t remember.” And that left Nino gaping surprise, mouth quite open.

“Eh?”

-----------------------------------------------

“Hmm, that’s strange.” The doctor said, making Nino to look up to meet the confusion of the doctor’s eyes.

“Eh, why is that sensei?” Nino asked curiously. The doctor shook his head and then looked back to him uncertain.

“I have to be honest to you, your friend here doesn’t show any symptoms of trauma or anything that can be cause him to have amnesia. His is really a rare case.” The doctor admitted. Nino couldn’t only make an ‘O’ sound as he looked back to the stranger he just met. “I suggest you bring him to the police department and maybe his relatives were already looking for him.” The doctor said. Nino just nodded his reply as his eyes still locked to the stranger who was looking back at him.

As what the doctor suggested, Nino did what he said without restriction or complain and Nino didn’t understand why. “Maybe I just felt indebted to him.” Nino told himself.

The journey to the police department was rather silent. No one dared to talk and the stranger just followed him closely behind. No questions or adlibs, no word came either of them yet that same silence felt calmer than any possible way.

After finding out there were no complains of a missing person or finding any background concerning the stranger, the police advised it was better if Nino would look after the stranger. At least they’ll know to whom to contact with when they found a lead about the stranger’s identity.

Even though it would be an inconvenient in Nino’s side, not a single word of protest came from him.

<END OF FLASHBACK>

And that’s how the stranger ended up staying with him.

“Oh, fish! Goldfish!” The stranger suddenly exclaimed, startling Nino a bit from his day dream. Nino’s eyes followed the voice and landed to the stranger that continued to admire the fishes in the aquarium.

“Oh~ Uwa~” another gasped came from the stranger.

“Oh~ sakuraya!” The stranger continued to exclaim in excitement. A chuckle escaped Nino’s lips as he rolled his eyes rather in amusement then approached the not-so-young-yet-acting-so-young stranger. “OH~”

And then Nino snapped his fingers. “Hmmm, because you don’t remember your name and it’s not appropriate not to call you…” Nino started, the stranger looked at him, blinking his eyes but waiting for anticipation. “I’ll call you Oh-chan. Is that okay?” Nino asked.

“Oh-chan?” the stranger repeated and Nino nodded with his I’m-a-genius-look. “Well, Oh-chan isn’t bad.” The stranger now named by Nino as Oh-chan smiled. Nino then looked at his watch. It was getting late and they haven’t eaten dinner yet.

“Yabai! I’ll cook dinner for us. Wait for me ne, Oh-chan?” Nino said hurriedly. With a smile on his face, Nino left the living room and into the kitchen. He didn’t know why he felt so comfortable around the man he just met.

Oh-chan looked at the rest of the living room, exploring its interior with his eyes and then a picture frame caught his attention by the desk drawer. He walked towards it and looked carefully to it. He took a special attention towards a picture of Nino in his childhood years. He grabbed the picture frame; traced Nino’s face in the picture gently like he was tracing the real face of Nino and then an audible mumble came from his mouth. “Kazu…”

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a beautiful night that night to go outside and hand fun, yet Nino chose to stay. After all, he had someone to babysit. He looked at the close door beside his own room from where he was standing in the living room, leaning his back in the glass window and a glass of wine on his left hand. Oh-chan, name of the stranger, was now his responsibility. It was still a great mystery how the stranger forgot everything about him when he didn’t hit his head somewhere and he seemed calm that it was impossible for him to be in trauma. He did save Nino’s life right? How did this happen?

Nino massaged his temples thinking about it and then sipped from his glass. Then it struck me so suddenly like how the wine kicked in inside his system. “Could it be the wings I just saw before?” Nino thought with widened eyes. He instantly shook the thought off. It could be just his imagination when he saw the guy with wings. With his rational thinking, he didn’t believe in angels or demons or such things. But somehow, he felt a tugged in his heart. An ache he couldn’t describe inflicting his chest as he thought about such creature especially angels.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

In the fluffy skies above, he felt comfort and bliss. Nothing mattered for everything was serene. He walked with his gentle smile, grasping in the air of purity. A light feeling lifted him up, as an angel’s wings bloomed from his back and fluttered openly. And then suddenly, everything was pitched black. Cold breeze coated his skin and fear started to strike him. He tried to move his wings, hoping it will help him to fly away from this darkness or protect him but it didn’t budge. A light surrounded him and his wings started dissolving, feather by feather. He reached for one but like any of his feathers; it just dissolved in the air. He closed his palm where he felt the remnants of the single feather and put it by his chest. Falling down on his knees, a tear rolled down from his close eyes. In his mind, visions of his memories flashed in a rewind so fast and then it turned completely blank. It was like his wings that disappeared feather by feather took his life memory by memory…

‘Don’t be afraid… we’ll just create new ones…” a voice said so gentle that it touched his heart. Even if another tear rolled from his eyes, this time he felt a complete blist.

Oh-chan woke up with that dream. He was completely clueless what his dream was for but somehow it calmed his racing heart, especially hearing that beautiful voice. He wondered when did he heard that voice and who’s voice was that.

It was a mystery for him like any other how he forgot everything in one snap when he remembered the accident completely.

Yes, the accident was the only memory he had left and it terrified him. He was sure he didn’t get hurt saving the guy. He wasn’t even sure where he was before his save Nino. Every memory of him was gone but he couldn’t forget how Nino’s eyes landed on him for the first time, or rather that time. He closed his eyes, remembering Nino’s hazel orbs, glittering yet tinted with sadness. It was like there was something missing. Oh-chan couldn’t tell how he knew but somehow he did. He could feel he knew Nino long ago but he couldn’t tell how. As far as he knew, Nino said it was the first time they met each other but somehow, Oh-chan felt he knew Nino for all his life.

Even though it was in the middle of the night when Oh-chan woke up from the dream, he couldn’t get back to sleep. Even if the silence of the night hauled him back. He sat up, get out of the bed and quietly as possible went out from his new room. Tiptoe-ing towards the dark living room and only the moon’s brilliance lit up the room through the glass windows, Oh-chan saw a figure lying down.

“Ninomiya-kun?” he called softly. But the latter didn’t budge for he was soundly asleep. Instead of going to Nino’s room to get a blanket from him, he rather got to his and get his. Setting the cover above the sleeping figure, Oh-chan smiled in contentment. His forefinger pushed gently, poking Nino’s cheeks and the latter just stirred on his deep slumber with smile on his face. Oh-chan sat in front of the couch, observing Nino in his sleep with happiness. He really felt in bliss, just like what he felt in his dream.

Nino woke up, warmth coated him even in the chill the autumn morning gave. He sat up sideway, glancing to ever side of the room until his eyes landed on the man in front of him, sleeping while sitting on the floor and his head resting on the table and an arm as his pillow.

“Oh-chan?” Nino mumbled sleepily, rubbing his eyes and a smile graced his lips seeing how cute Oh-chan look while sleeping. He caught sight of the papers scattered on the table and a pencil. He grabbed one, resulting for his cheeks shaded with blush.

“H-He…d-drew me?” he stammered as he looked how he was carefully drawn by the stranger. Even the small details of his moles were prudently drawn. Nino looked at the sleeping figure and then…

<FLASHBACK>

“Look Nino-chan, I drew you!” a boy with spiky hair exclaimed. The younger boy who was busy playing cars looked up with his innocent eyes, blinked it twice before smiling that made the older kid’s heart flutter.

“Wah! Sugoi!” gasped the younger with a mixture of excitement and delight. He stood up and looked at the drawing thoroughly.

“Wah! Sugoi!” the younger boy could no longer hold his enthusiasm that he hugged the older boy. “Arigatou!” he smiled. The older smiled back as slowly he hugged back the younger boy, contented in that moment.

<END OF FLASHBACK>

Nino’s eyes were dazed. He couldn’t utter a word or move a muscle. He was sure it was his memory in childhood but who was the kid. He couldn’t remember him. The face in his memory was blurry. He felt shivered and deep in his heart, he felt lonely and sad. “that me-m-mory… w-why?”

And then…

DLING! DLONG!

The doorbell rang and it snapped Nino back to reality and definitely, someone was in the door. But who could be bothering him in a Saturday morning?

Author’s notes: Sorry for a late update~ it’s just I’m a bit reluctant about this story. I don’t know if I should go for a full time fantasy or not. I mean, should I make Nino an angel too or not? I kinda have doubts about the story board. The plot isn’t much planned yet but somehow it’s getting better I guess? Plus I really wanted to make this chapter at least 3000+ like I usually do for HaeHyuk stories but then… like I said, I’m really doubting this story… but then nevermind. I’ll just do my best too…

Read, enjoy and please do leave comments, criticisms and such. Love you all.

P.S. I might release another OhMiya fic entitled “CATHARSIS” and if I’m lucky enough, it might be a collaboration with [livejournal.com profile] fliuor  (Lol, why am I dragging a great writer in such a mess. Gommen ne~)
