---------------------------------------------------

Donghae has no clue how it turns out to be like this. In the first official day of his work, he has to meet the people he’ll be working with for the newest project which is actually a collaboration with another company and that company happens to be Yunho’s (and that cheeky bastard haven’t say a word to whom the presentation is for. He even helps in creating presentation that is actually will be presented to them). Then he cannot blame the tall guy because Yunho honestly didn’t know he is working in that company. He hasn’t tell them yet his whereabouts after that Friday night when he first saw them again after five years, all he has to say to them that nigh is he’s back here in Korea. And he feels it isn't really necessary to add more details.

In celebration of closing a deal between the companies, Yunho invited him for a drink and of course, Donghae doesn’t decline. (Although, he has to watch his alcohol intake because it is bad with his condition) and so he has opted into just drinking juices while Yunho does celebrate with alcohol.

But then the next thing he knows is there are already five of them here. Jaejoong comes by since Yunho has forgotten that they actually have a plan of hanging out with a movie (and Donghae really wants to ask if there is something going on between Yunho and Jaejoong. After five years of being missing in action, there are chances that relationships have build up between his friends considering the two are really inseparable and he might not just be aware now), Nino happens to be with Jaejoong because they are finishing a song together and then Ohno happens to be with some co-workers in that same bar just to celebrate their success of their play that is running for months already. And so, Ohno joins them afterwards and all of them have a drinking session. Well, about Eunhyuk? Let’s just say, it is still impossible for now to be the two of them in one place and Donghae is glad how everyone respects that.

Donghae doesn't complain because really, to be surrounded with friends is all he can ask for. They aren't pushy in making him talk but they also don't bring you the awkward aura. No, instead they welcome you with open arms like you never left. (And maybe a bit smack from Yunho before.)

They shared laughs and stories as their drinking session goes. Well, it's more like Jaejoong doing all the talk with remarks from their Nino hyung here and there and then some babbling from Yunho. Ohno, as Donghae has observed, has been quiet the whole time. He either just laughs with them or hums in agreement but something is alerting and it's how Ohno shoots looks towards Nino's direction. He knows that look when he sees one and even if he lets out a knowing look towards the older two, Donghae doesn't comment. He just observes them silently and still not believing how everyone has change yet at the same time it doesn't.

And he has thought that everything he does is subtle but no. He has forgotten how Nino is more observant than any of them.

"You do know that observing is somewhat my sole job in this group." Donghae laughs at Nino's statement, and then playfully sulks.

“You’re so greedy, hyung.” Donghae comments and Nino just smirks at that. Currently, He and Nino are the ones who are left in their table. Yunho has been brought to the comfort room where he is making a mess. He isn’t really much the heaviest drinker of them all while Jaejoong who can handle his alcohol well and haven’t really drink much yet, is nursing the younger one. Ohno excuses his self first to talk to some of his colleagues and also present his self to their director who just joined the celebration now.

“Have you gone back Mokpo first?” Nino suddenly asks and Donghae honestly shakes his head. Well, he does plan on going back to his hometown soon but he needs to settle first with his work before he goes anywhere away from Seoul.

“Though your family knows you’re here already right?”

“Yeah…” He answers. And he grimaces lightly how his mother is frantic that he has to come back in Mokpo the day his plane has landed in the country. It takes him an hour of explanation that he’ll be coming back to visit as soon as he is done with settling here in Seoul. Thinking again, he is pretty much settled here. “I’m actually going there tomorrow. I just need to settle everything here first in Seoul before I can visit them and I think I have done that.” Donghae replies and drinks his juice. There’s a pregnant pause before Nino sighs and let’s go of a bomb.

“So you settling here don’t include Eunhyuk?”

Trust Nino to be the one to lead it to that direction but Donghae isn’t offended because he knows it is about time. He’s also aware how he needs someone to talk with about this and Nino is the right one. Donghae stiffens but he doesn’t make an effort to hide it. Whatever he does to hide it will just be a waste when it comes to Nino. The older man can just see right through it. Donghae then begins stirring his juice with his straw just for the sake of doing something and somehow it helps him to calm down.

“No…” Donghae whispers and he knows Nino has picked that up despite the softness he lets it out. He sighs on his own, maybe it will help him to gather much strength and then continues, “I’m honestly hoping I won’t run to any of you while settling down.” He admits.

There’s another pregnant pause and Donghae takes his time to finally look at Nino who is drinking up a shot, trying to squint some expressions from the other but all he can see is just the normal Nino, playful and mischievous yet still he knows the latter is serious. And then there’s a snort and a smirk as Nino looks back at him, his glass back in to the table.

“I don’t think so. Seoul is maybe a big city but if you really want not to run to everyone, or even any of us, you won’t even be thinking of going back in the same country we are in.” Nino inputs and Donghae is taken back at the honest retort the older man has. But he smiles right through it. "Deep inside, you want to run into us no matter the consequences." Nino explains and Donghae knows he, himself, isn't going to admit or deny that.

It's confusing really because it isn’t clear what he really wants. He is pretty much settled back in Seattle as he lives with his cousin there for almost five years. He has finished his master degree in Business Marketing/Entrepreneurship there with satisfying results. He is satisfied with his quite well with a favorable position but when a proposal is presented to him that involves going back to South Korea, Donghae doesn’t know what makes him to accept it and the rest is now history.

“Look Hae, I know this isn’t going to be easy but you really need to do something about you and Eunhyuk. I’m not saying it’s your fault or anything…” Nino starts again and Donghae listens to it because really, he needs someone's insights in this. “Although I really want to punch you for leaving without a word…” Nino scolds playfully and Donghae chuckles at that.

“You have your reasons why you left and we won’t question that till you are ready but I think out of all of us, Eunhyuk deserves the answer the most...” Nino continues and then put a hand over Donghae’s shoulder before continuing, “I may be assuming but something tells me both of you…” he said and then playfully emphasizes, “I repeat both of you…”

“…still love each other but one way or another," Nino says and Donghae doesn’t comment but his heart wholeheartedly agrees.

"...Either you two get back together or you break it off with some reason I don’t really want to know. Both of you deserved a closure of what has happened five years ago and why both of you are like this now.” Nino ends, bit slurry maybe because of the drinks he already has but Donghae understands. There is a squish in his shoulder and Donghae gives another nod.

A closure is needed to justify everything no matter the consequences it follows and Donghae knows it’s for the best but it gets him thinking. Can he be entirely honest with everything that has happened to him within those times to anyone of them, especially to Eunhyuk?

“I think we are done here…”

Donghae's trance ends and he sees Nino smirking and it isn’t address to him but rather pass through his shoulder. Donghae turns around and he sees Yunho going out of the comfort room, being held by Jaejoong in the waist to assist the taller man who isn’t looking all too well. Nino drowns his last drink before going there and helps Jaejoong in assisting Yunho. Donghae pays their bills and follows them. Ohno then meets them up by Yunho’s car, with Yunho already in the passenger’s seat and Jaejoong in the driver’s seat. They have agreed that Jaejoong will take Yunho back to his apartment and maybe nurse him all through the night because Yunho is really looking like a mess now. Nino will be taking Jaejoong’s car since the older hasn’t brought his because he has taken a ride with Jaejoong earlier in coming here. Jaejoong can just pick it up tomorrow since they’ll be meeting again for their works anyways. And because Ohno doesn’t drive much even if he has a driver’s license, he'll just take a ride with Nino.

“Jya, take care of the bear.” Nino comments and Jaejoong shrugs with a smile and waves them goodbye. The three who is left behind in the car park watches as the car zooms away until Jaejoong takes a left turn in the corner.

“I know this is supposed to be a celebration but something tells me Yunho isn’t drinking for a celebration but for another reason.” Nino sighs, resigned and a bit pitiful. Donghae then remembers some of Yunho’s rambling earlier before when it is just the two of them.

“I really hate it when he tries and go bothers Jaejoong… using him so he can talk to me…”

“I feel bad leaving like that when Jaejoong made an effort in coming there like he usually do and he even made my favorite omelet yet I wasn’t able to finish it because my emotions got a better of me… It always does…”

Donghae doesn’t really know what has been happening but he somewhat know it has something to do with Yunho’s father.

"It's getting really late and you'll still be travelling back to Mokpo right?" Nino turns his attention to Donghae and so does Ohno.

"Yeah, or else I'll here an earful complain from my mother." Donghae groans. Ohno snickers while Nino shakes his head, quite amuse.

"Will you be okay?" Nino asks and this time sounding concern. See, it's either Nino acts as the caring mother or he becomes the cruel stepmother from time to time. Donghae needs to control his laugh or else he'll get another hit from the older and he doesn't want another pain to contribute in his impending headache.

"Don't worry onii. I didn't drink any alcohol today so it'll be fine." Donghae reassures him and Nino just gives a nod.

"Jya, take care then and say our regards to your family." Nino says and heads out to Jaejoong's car.

"See you around." Ohno says and pats his shoulder before following Nino. Something he remembers Ohno will always do to say they are here and Donghae wonders if Ohno knows what he and Nino has been talking.

Donghae watches as Nino and Ohno zooms away and then heads to his own car, his mind travelling miles away as he traces back everything that has happened since.

It's really cold that night. Cold wind brushes into his skin as rain drops from above kiss him to drench, hiding the tears that fight its way through his cheeks.

It is raining cats and dogs but he doesn't mind. The pain in his heart is more throbbing and he finds the rain quite a salvation from his pain, from the loneliness that crept and the lost that starts to grow each minute. And then suddenly the rain just stops, but the sound of rain drops doesn't. He looks up in curiousness and then a shy gummy smile is registered in his view.

"Are you okay?" Asks the man who's sharing the confines of his umbrella to him, standing in front of his crouching figure in the swing of the playground. Donghae doesn't reply though and the stranger doesn't know what to say anymore.

"It's gonna be okay." The man reassures, his free hand reaches out to Donghae, either for a shake hand or offering his self.

Donghae blinks at it, stares as he notices how beautiful the paleness of the man's palm is. He looks up again, this time staring at the man's hazel eyes. There is a smile, shy and hesitant. Donghae suddenly finds it fascinating. Donghae then remembered the man's words, wondering if the guy knows how everything becomes like this and if he does know, will he still say it like that.

"It's gonna be okay." The man repeats and this time it sounds firm and determined and Donghae doesn't know what has gotten to him. He just stands up and hugs the man; seeking comfort to someone he has only known for a minute, five minutes at most.

It is repulsive, might be even scary to the man for someone who suddenly hugs him but the other hasn't push him, instead holds him and that’s all Donghae can wish for. Donghae lost someone today, he lost himself today and yet he is found once again.

When the rain becomes a soft drizzle, they walk through the empty street hand in hand. Since then, Donghae doesn't let go until he needs to.

"What do you mean?" Donghae's eyes widens, his nerves getting on him and he doesn't know how to act.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Lee but the results says it all. You hav-" and he doesn't want a repeat anymore. It is more than enough. He runs without a care to where his feet will take him. He needs to go; to get out of this place as memories floods him and now new fear starts to envelope him. And when he stops, he doesn’t realize he's back in his dorm until a phone call.

“Hae, where are you? You do remember that we have a graduation practice right?”

“I’m… I’m by the entrance…” Donghae whispers his answer.

“Oh, Yunho and Jaejoong are already waiting by the auditorium. Do you want to go first there or wait for me; I just finished taking a bath.”

“Uhm… I’ll come up there…”

He doesn’t think, he just says it.

“Oh... okay. Oh wait-“

And he doesn’t wait for the other to finish his reply.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

“You know you could just have waited downstairs. We'll be going down anyways.” That was Eunhyuk’s first greeting after he opens his door with mirth in his eyes and it falters as he sees Donghae. He takes a step towards his boyfriend, cupping his cheeks and Donghae leans in the touch.

"Are you okay?" Eunhyuk asks again and it feels nostalgic in Donghae's mind. It's like the first time they have met and yet it's entirely different.

Donghae doesn't answer as he waits for Eunhyuk to speak again and the said latter speaks, just like that night.

"It's gonna be okay..."

It's soft and warm just like those lips that lands in his own a second later.

Donghae then wonders, just like that night before, that if Eunhyuk knows everything, we'll he be able to say it like this.

He feels Eunhyuk's forehead against his and a warm hand against his nape, rubbing it soothingly up and down. There are also chaste pecks and Donghae feels his eyes will well-up, overwhelm with Eunhyuk's care.

"It's gonna be okay, Hae." Eunhyuk reassures him again and somehow Donghae knows what he needs to do so that everything will be okay, even just for Eunhyuk that is.

"I'm sorry to bother this dramatic scene but we really need to move since every graduate candidate is needed in the auditorium."

Eunhyuk jumps a bit, startled at their unexpected audience, blush creeping in his cheeks as he hides in Donghae's back. Donghae lets a small smile and he speaks for the first time since he has arrived by the entrance of Eunhyuk's room.

"Way to ruin the mood Yurobbong."

"Well, sorry about that but we need to get our ass to the venue and Jaejoong is frantic already that you guys might miss this and it can affect your graduation..." Yunho explains and then scratch his head, adding a hesitant, "I think?"

"Let's go?" Donghae asks his boyfriend and then there's a surprise in Eunhyuk's eyes but he doesn't comment and just give a nod with his gummy smile.

Once Eunhyuk's room is lock, Donghae takes his hand as they head to the auditorium with Yunho. He then starts counting the days when he can hold it until he needs to let go.

Donghae blinks as he tries to adjust his eyes to the sunlight that penetrates his room. It's revolting against the chill the autumn morning especially in the mountain side where his hometown resides.

"Good morning sleepy head..." someone greets and when he looks by the door of his room, there stands his older brother with cross-arms against his chest and his side leaning in the doorway.

"Good Morning Dongwhan hyung." Donghae greets with a small smile.

"When you said you'll be coming tomorrow yesterday when I was talking to you in the phone, I expect you coming here at least mid-afternoon today... two to three in the afternoon perhaps, not a quarter to four in the morning..." Dongwhan complains and Donghae can just smile sheepishly at that.

It's almost ten in the evening when their drinking session has ended and when he has gotten back to his apartment, Donghae has become restless and the only thing that can calm him is coming back to Mokpo and so he has done it. It is mostly a six-hour drive with a few stops for gas station and bathroom break, aside from that; it's actually a smooth ride.

"I know Mom gives an earful fit about you not coming home the moment you land here in Korea, but I'm sure she'll understand if you don't go back here hastily and alone." Dongwhan continues and Donghae's smile disappears bit by bit. "You could have ask me to fetch you rather than just drive all your way here." His older brother sounds more serious and concerned that it makes Donghae to grimace.

"You're overacting hyung, I'm totally fine." Donghae tries to reassure him to the point of standing up and stretching a bit. Dongwhan sighs, defeated. He has long ago learned that his little brother will always be the stubborn one out of them.

"Whatever you say." He says, resigned as he moves inside Donghae's room. Donghae on the other hand went to his bathroom to do his morning business. Dongwhan makes himself comfortable by sitting at Donghae's desk and smiles finding the old comic books they have used to read when they are younger in Donghae's bedside-table and seeing the turned pages, Donghae has been skimming them before going to sleep.

"Are you a kid?" Dongwhan tries to tease and Donghae replies it with a grumble from the bathroom and it seems Donghae is brushing his teeth already. Dongwhan flips another page and then a picture falls down and Dongwhan feels sad about it.

In the picture, Donghae is in with Eunhyuk. He is kissing the cheeks the only one he loves.

"Hyung don't you-" Donghae doesn't finish his words anymore and Dongwhan gets perked up getting caught but the fond small smile gracing Donghae relaxes him. He waits for Donghae to sit beside him and gets the picture, staring at it lovingly.

"Hyukkie is really gorgeous ne?" Donghae asks and it makes Dongwhan to chuckle at how Donghae sounds like child boasting his favorite toy to everyone. Donghae glares but it's playful and easy-going.

"I know..." Dongwhan finally comments and Donghae displays a satisfied grin at that. There is a pregnant pause and then, "Have you tried to meet him after you come back?"

There is another pause and then Donghae starts cracking up, making Dongwhan confuse.

"Ironically, even if I was actually hoping I won't ran to any of them, I ended up coming to them unintentionally." Donghae recalls, thinking back the day he has arrive back in Korea.

"You met all of them?" Dongwhan inquires again, scandalous in his tone and Donghae replies it with a nod. But his eyes suddenly widen when Dongwhan suddenly cups his cheeks and begins on checking on him.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm checking if you have any injuries. They might have beaten you up." Dongwhan explained and Donghae is bemused.

"Hahahah, Stop hyung! Stop! They didn’t and won’t hurt me." Donghae laughs and when Dongwhan stops checking on him, he finally adds, "Well Eunhyuk did punch me in the face." And the two of them laughs at that.

"It figures. Good thing the bruise got healed easily." Dongwhan comments and Donghae shrugs. Dongwhan watches as how Donghae stares at that picture, how his younger brother gently traces Eunhyuk's features through the picture like it's the actual thing. Dongwhan knows what his brother is planning. "You're not planning to tell them huh... Especially him..."

It isn't a question, it's a statement and Donghae doesn’t comment on that. He just smiles and Dongwhan releases a sigh. He pats Donghae’s shoulder before going out again, probably back to the kitchen to get breakfast.

Donghae looks at his bedside table, it’s already ten minutes to nine in the morning and a whole new day awaits him.

“These past few years I always ask myself when will be the next time I’ll be going here with you by my side and now, we are here, it feels like yesterday when we last went here all together five years ago.”

Donghae watches as his mother arranges the flowers in the pot. The chilly autumn let himself be felt in the serenity of the cemetery and it makes Donghae to hug himself.

“Are you cold?”

“Aren’t you?” he asks back to his mother playfully and the middle-aged woman can just laugh at that. He crouches down beside her and helps her in arranging the freshly brought flowers from their garden that is mostly tended by his mother. He brushes away the invisible dusts from cold tombstone and mouthed the words in carved on it, “Lee Hyunsik, a loving husband and father.”

“He still come here’s ever since that day. Yearly, he’ll bring a bouquet of flowers and pray here.” He mother narrates a couple of minutes later when silence surrounded them both. Donghae doesn’t need justification of who the person his mother is referring to. He just knows it.

“Son, I know this isn’t my place to say this but are you okay with how is it now?” Her mother asks. She’s already standing up and looking down on him. Donghae stands up next to her but he can’t meet her mother’s eyes.

“It will hurt him if he knows. I rather have him hate him rather and spare him rather than have him to suffer with him.” Donghae says, soft yet his voice tinges with firm and a decision.

“But you’re both hurting yourself son… and I know this isn’t a consolation or something. But you do know, if he really loves you… he’ll stay strong and be with you… because being with the person you love even if those days is counted, it will never be a suffering...” his mother coax him and then looks at the tombstone fondly as she ends it, “Trust me, I know.”

“I…”

“I heard from Dongwhan you have met them… especially him…” His mother doesn’t allow him to continue as she inquires him directly.

“Yeah…”

"I think you should take it as a chance Hae..." his mother tells him, holding his hand between her ones. Donghae looks at those hands and thoughts drifts away as he asks his self why.

"I'm afraid umma..." he says, finally being honest with his self.”I'm afraid..." he repeats and he shivers at that thought.

"Then it's more likely the reason why you need him more..." his mother replies as she squishes his son's hand in hers, rubbing the back of his palm with her thumb.

Donghae meets her eyes and there's trust and encouragement shining on it and he is thankful to have a mother like her.

Maybe he’ll consider…

Friday

Being nervous is honestly an understatement when he comes to the cafe at Friday night. He knows what usually Friday nights are consisted of and he does not know if he still has that privilege like before to join. No, no one has push him away and Nino even makes an effort to invite him to come.

"Yoh Mr. Lee Donghae! Well, it's Friday in two days so you better have your sorry ass at the cafe by then. And I'm not taking no as an answer. Anyways, it's also a celebration for oji-chan's success for his play. Uhm... I know this will be awkward but I hope this can be a way for you to settle things. That's all..."

And Donghae finds it amusing how Nino can change from a brat to a soft person.

Donghae takes a deep breath as he now stands beside his car in front of the shop. He doesn't know the outcome of this night but he hopes it's for the better.

"You know, it's getting cold out here, Hae."

Donghae's head snaps up towards the voice and his breathe hitch at that. There in front of him, stands Eunhyuk by the entrance of the Clockwork Umbrella, a gummy smile flustered in his face and Donghae can't believe it's coming from the same guy who just punched him the last time they have met. (And he admits he really does deserve that punch.)

"Hyuk... Hyukjae?"

"Yeah, something wrong?"

"I... t-thou-... I." Donghae stammers, unprepared at this kind of confrontation (well if this is called confrontation anyways).

“Come on. It’s really getting cold.” Eunhyuk says, stressing his statement by rubbing his arms.

“Ah, yes.” Donghae replies and jogs towards Eunhyuk and opens the door for him.

“Uhm… thanks.” Eunhyuk says with a small smile and enters the cafe and all through those years it never fails to amaze Donghae of how precious it looks.

As soon as Donghae enters, his eyes are instantly trained to the corner of the café and shock eyes welcome him. Their eyes travels back and forth from Eunhyuk who stops by the entrance, somewhat waiting for him to enter and then to him.

If the atmosphere isn't that awkward in the first place, he might actually be laughing at how ridiculous they have been looking at them, with Jaejoong’s jaw hanging in the air, Ohno who doesn’t show much reactions is looking at them but his eyes are seemingly alert, Nino on the other hand show a raised in an eye brow. It’s honestly funny and he really wants to laugh at that but someone beat him to up.

“Hahahahaha~ what happened to you guys? It’s like you’ve seen a ghost or something.” Eunhyuk says, trying to stiffle his laugh. Nino is the first one to recover from it as his usual smirk resurface.

“It’s about time you two come here.” Nino says and puts down the soup at their table. Jaejoong then greets them while laying out the utensils.

“Oh, Yunho isn’t here yet. I’ll just give the bear a call.” Jaejoong excuses his self to go outside to make a call. Eunhyuk goes to their table and congratulates Ohno on his success as the older nods a bit embarrass.

Donghae goes next, honestly still in dazed how everything comes to this so fast and when Eunhyuk excuses his self to fetch himself something from the kitchen, Nino is already in his side with a raise eyebrow.

“I’m not honestly expecting you to take my words in one snap, Hae…” Nino comments.

“I honestly didn’t.” He admits and Nino’s looks at him confused but he can’t doesn’t have the time to justify it when Eunhyuk comes back.

Nino doesn’t comment anymore and Donghae can only see the subtle inquiry Nino throws towards Eunhyuk who seems jolly for some reason. Nino doesn’t comment but Donghae knows there’s more words Nino want to say and so he silently observes from afar. Yunho finally comes and it doesn’t escape his eyes the stunned look Yunho sports when he sees them but like everyone, no one comments at it.

This night has brought a nostalgic feeling at Donghae now that the group is finally complete with Yunho and Nino slight bickering here and there, Jaejoong’s melodious laugh with their antics, Ohno also cracking up and then finally with Eunhyuk showing his gummy smile. Eunhyuk nudges him when he is caught staring at the former, and Donghae just shakes his head and direct his eyes back to the group as Yunho narrates some funny moments when he is in a meeting before coming here.

No, it’s not that he doesn’t like this…

He actually loves this kind of atmosphere. It’s like those times when they are gathered in a café five years ago when they are still college students that are graduating soon, Ohno and Nino are just starting to make names for themselves.

But then in reality, isn’t this a bit too fast for a change?

”I'm afraid..."

And Donghae finds more truth in it now that after coming back.

Chapter 3c | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5

Author’s Notes:

Finally! I was able to update this. I dunno why, I'm having problems with Yunjae and HaeHyuk's background story. I'm not gonna go and complain anything anyways. You guys don't deserved it. Since all couples are finally done with their background story, expect them to see in every chapter as equally as I can portray it. Rather than concentrating with one couple for every chapter, I manage to re-outline everything with each couple sharing in every chapter, of course I also want to emphasize their friendship here. (and I just really hope there's reality in it. DBSK/JYJ and Super Junior need to have a work with Arashi. I'll be a happy fan girl!!! TT_TT).

Also in next chapter, you'll understand more how these people are connected as a bit will be revealed about their connection with the story's title. A member will also be making a big entrace. hahahaha~

And before I babble nonsense, I'll stop here. Hope you enjoyed reading this. By the way, if you feel like talking to anyone or asking me question, you can ask me at ask.fm/theMekmek or tweet me at @6002theMekmek. Don't worry, I don't bite. I really just want to talk to people. hahaha~

P.S. I still don't understand what's live journal's word count capacity. Why can I post this in one post while the last chapter that I posted last time is almost same word count but I have to divide into three post? *forever confused*
