Title: One Message
Genre: Slice Of Life, Friendship, Gen
Rating: PG
Pairing: OT5
Author: Me
Length – Words: Oneshot – 1929 words
Summary: Throughout the years of smiles or even tears, of hardships and achievements. One night a rainbow lit up one of Tokyo’s tallest towers, reaching out to send one clear message.
Author’s notes: Maybe you need a couple of tissues? Kidding~ Anyways, I based the arrangement of the color of the tower in the preview when they announced that Arashi’s color will lit the Tokyo Tower and not the actual color when it was lighten up. Since I saw a picture that the arrangement was different with yellow on top, followed by purple(?), green(?), blue(?) and red as the base while in the preview it was (from top to bottom) purple, yellow, green, red, blue. I hope you’ll forgive me with that. Inspired by their 2004 24hr TV guesting, especially Aiba’s letter, and SKETCH. I think it is also better for you to listen to SKETCH while reading?
This fic is my entry Ao No Michi's fanfic contest and my first OT5 fic. Although it didn't win, I'm grateful people took time in reading it and even voted for it. Arigatou gozaimasu! I'm taking this opportunity to thanks
jade_lil,
murrponchan and
shardaunei for their great help in finishing this and also for being patient with me despite how annoying I can be. XDDDDD of course, also thank you to
ao_no_michi for organizing this contest. Comments and Criticisms are highly appreciated.

Jun took a glance at the tower for a moment, seeing the purple color, a color usually stood for royalty. He wondered why it was on the top. Was it because it was a way to conclude his drama Lucky Seven since it was his trademark color? It could be, but something was bothering him more. Did his color deserve to be on the top? If he looked at the Tokyo Tower as a body, it meant the brain, right? But he wasn’t smart like Sho who graduated from Keio University. Why must he look at himself as a brain?
“Thank you for always putting Arashi first, thinking of Arashi more than anyone else.”
“The second one from the top, huh?” Nino thought about his color’s placement. He didn’t really care where they would set his color in the tower but somehow he felt it wasn’t right to place it there. He then took a glance at each of the members until it landed on Aiba who was beside him.
“Thank you for creating the atmosphere and always there for making us happy.”
He silently chuckled to himself. Was he really creating such atmospheres in certain situations even before? Although he had to admit that he had the most observant eyes that he could tell the atmosphere between the members and the sharpest tongue that could release comments that could invoke laughter, it seemed it wasn’t enough. Moments later, he shook his head and let it be. Seven years had passed and it seemed Aiba’s words had reached him even before he knew it. Maybe that was why even if he had no confidence; he blurted things out on or off camera to lighten up the mood. Because Aiba believed he always created those atmospheres where they could enjoy each other, he unintentionally did it. And he was happier could do it for and together with Arashi.
Aiba took a deep breath, taking a break from his manga he had been reading since he arrived at Nino’s apartment. Instinctively, his eyes went for the Tokyo Tower lighting up for tonight. He was amazed but something titillated him suddenly. There on the middle was his color, green. He hugged his legs and rested his head on his knees. Somehow, he could see his color as the heart of the tower and he wondered if he could live up with what he thought he was.
“He said he has been giving us trouble during that period, but in fact he must be the one who was hurt the most during that time…”
Remembering Sho’s words from before, it gave him comfort. He did show his real emotions more often than the other members. He could be seen smiling or tearing up so easily. His tension could be high and the others would tease him about it but Aiba didn’t mind for he could feel the gratitude hidden with their actions. They didn’t need to explain it why they did it. Aiba already understood. And he was glad that throughout those years and counting, he could share those feelings together with Arashi.
“Arashi’s color will be lighting up Tokyo Tower for…” Sho didn’t continue anymore the sentences in the newspaper he was reading. He saw it already from afar, Tokyo Tower lightning up with five different colors. What caught his eyes were the red lights that were surrounding the part of the tower that connected the base to its upper body. He wondered if it was right to put it there. And then he mumbled with deep thoughts, “…connecting.”
“Thank you for bringing five of us together (we’re five different characters and it’s you who tried to keep us together every time)”
Sho tapped his fingers on the table slowly as his mind travelled. Sometimes, Sho still couldn’t believe Aiba would thank him for being a persistent one. He thought that being the so-called mother of the group with how he took care of them inside and out could annoy the members, especially with how he tried to talk to each one of them to create a bond. He even feared that he would be misunderstood taking up the role as the leader. But he was glad his intentions weren’t taken the wrong way and was accepted. He was more thankful that each member of Arashi wasn’t thinking of him as lightly as a co-worker but deeply like a real brother.
Ohno sipped from his beer before continuing with his drawing. He took a peek to the Tokyo Tower, the subject of his sketch for tonight. He noticed that the blue was at the base, the one that supported the tower and Ohno felt it wasn’t right. The blue wasn’t a strong color. It was calm and somewhat weak; weak like him. Ohno sighed. He wasn’t really fitted as the leader of the group either. Heck, he just won it unintentionally through janken.
A small smile appeared on Ohno’s face. It had been almost seven years already since Aiba read that letter he wrote, yet it felt like he had heard it just yesterday. Maybe he kept those words inside his heart for it meant a lot to him. He knew he didn’t speak much. He knew he couldn’t do much but to sing his best, dance or act to the fullest or just be there for the members. Because of those simple yet direct words, he was more than satisfied that all of them acknowledge it even if all he could only offer was his mere presence and didn’t ask for more. That letter reminded him he didn’t really have to burden everything just like he should as a leader but rather together with Arashi.
“It isn’t really odd…”
Everyone looked where the voice came from. Ohno, who rarely voice out his thoughts, stood up and walked until he had reached in front of the window.
He looked back at them and smiled. “It’s just we can’t believe that we finally did it,” he mumbled. Everyone looked at each other and soon smiles emerged from their own faces. Each stood up and walked to the window, crowding around their leader and looking at the tower. They stood there, mesmerize by the sight of the tower. Ohno was right. It wasn’t odd. It was just an unbelievable sight for them. Soon afterwards, one was already crying while others were in verge of tearing up. No need for words to elaborate what their Captain meant. They just knew it from their heart what he meant.
"This isn't the place for us to stop~" Nino sang as tears started to swell from his eyes as well. They shared chuckles and sniggered but soon only silent grateful sobs could be heard.
“I hope we can work together in the future too, and lastly, we always swear to get to the top, may our dreams come true one day.”
“I am happy to be a member of Arashi.” he continued openly the next sentence he wrote before, smiling to himself even if tears won’t stop. Nino ruffled his hair while Sho squeezed his shoulder. Ohno smiled at him while Jun looked away, trying to stop his own tears from flowing, but Aiba knew better. They were saying the same. A hug was shared with five of them together with a pledge they carried from the start, now and maybe even forever.
It has been almost thirteen years of hardships and achievements, of tears and smiles and more to come. Seven years had it been since Aiba’s first letter to all of them, Nino’s coming four years after that. Maybe others would follow if given a chance, but in different times surely they knew each of them would say the same thing. Now, for one night it was shown through the lights of one of the tallest towers in Tokyo. There might be another time that it would happen or not, but it just showed that not all messages were to be said and be heard but also could be shown and be seen just like this one. An oath exhibited through the lights, reaching throughout Tokyo or even all over Japan to light up the darkness the night presented. Who knows, maybe even the world. Five different colors, also five different personalities, each had their way to share their feelings but vital like each part of a body a person has, similar to the parts of Tokyo Tower that made it stand tall and proud through all this time. From the start, one thing was clear when they brought those feelings through their words and actions, even how many times or how long had it been, the message they always sent would always be the same.

You After talking until morning without sleep, we finally understood what "Arashi" was
So let's call up a storm when that door opens
"This isn't the place for us to stop"
You are my sunshine and you are my soul, soul
Nobody can get in the way of this unrelenting feeling
We're loving it more than anyone else
- Arashi’s Sketch
They were gathered in Nino’s apartment that night with beers and some snacks. Surprisingly, their management gave them a night off so suddenly when they knew they had a variety show to shoot that night. Lazing around the apartment’s living room, they had a nice view of Tokyo Tower in its rainbow colors for the night.
“Don’t you think it’s a bit odd seeing Tokyo Tower lit up in five different colors?” Nino suddenly blurted out and everyone’s attention was to him.
“What do you mean?” Aiba said, slumping next to him with a beer in his hand and a manga in the other. “Oi!” Aiba protested when Nino took his beer for himself.
“Honestly, it’s a bit odd seeing it like that.” Nino remarked, ignoring Aiba’s protest. He then went on with his date with his game console. As noises of monsters getting killed filled the silent room, everyone decided to shrug it off when no one pressed the topic and went back to what they were doing. But deep inside, they were intrigued with what Nino meant. Nino himself didn’t know why he said that. Somehow each of them knew that they felt the same, it was just that they couldn’t pinpoint the reason why it was odd.
Jun smiled remembering Aiba’s words in that letter, feeling light-hearted all of a sudden. It was a simple thank you but it meant a lot coming from a band mate. Subconsciously, without admitting it, it encouraged him throughout the years to think of new ideas to improve himself together with Arashi. Smug as it might seem, Jun was proud of his idea about the moving stage. It was more convenient not just to reach out to the audience closer but also for them to have fun. But then again, he was more proud when people said “Arashi introduced moving stages with their concerts” rather than seeing his name taking credit for it.
Nino stopped his game console and glanced again at the tower through his window.
“The second one from the top, huh?” Nino thought about his color’s placement. He didn’t really care where they would set his color in the tower but somehow he felt it wasn’t right to place it there. He then took a glance at each of the members until it landed on Aiba who was beside him.

“I’m afraid you never fulfill your responsibility as a leader… but we’re always relieved by your existence and personality. Thank you, I’m still relying on you, Leader…”
A small smile appeared on Ohno’s face. It had been almost seven years already since Aiba read that letter he wrote, yet it felt like he had heard it just yesterday. Maybe he kept those words inside his heart for it meant a lot to him. He knew he didn’t speak much. “I hope we can work together in the future too, and lastly, we always swear to get to the top, may our dreams come true one day.”
Aiba sniffed remembering what he wrote before. He then looked at them, one by one with those honest eyes. Even though it had been seven years after he wrote that letter, he wouldn’t get tired of writing or even saying it again and again.
“I am happy to be a member of Arashi.” he continued openly the next sentence he wrote before, smiling to himself even if tears won’t stop. Nino ruffled his hair while Sho squeezed his shoulder.
