THE MONKEY MUSIC BOX

Slowly I opened my eyes and the sun's light is welcoming me. I sat up and look around. My things were fixed, my laptop is neatly placed at my bed side table. I must have fallen asleep after seeing his gummy smile. What am I thinking again? Speaking of Eunhyuk, where is he? I look around once more but no sign of him. I guess he's already awake.

"Maybe he's in the kitchen already drinking strawberry milk." I mumbled. I sat up at the edge of my bed and massage my head.

I went first to the bathroom to do my morning business and wash my face. Good thing it's my rest day today, I could just rest all day. But then if I do that Uyu might get bored. After all he stayed in the house for a week without going out. Well, I couldn’t really accompany him since I’m at work. I kinda feel bad for leaving him in the house without nothing to do. Well, he did know how to use the computer, TV and other things here but still not going out is quite boring. I wonder what we shall do today.

Finally done with my business, I went to the sink to wash my face. I glance to the mirror…

ARGH!

I quickly covered my eyes. Wait, why am I covering my eyes? It’s not like it’s the first time I see him naked in front of me and coming from the bathtub or something but then I was really surprise seeing him coming from the bathtub and dripping wet.

“Hae?” I uncovered my eyes and saw him already have robe covering his body though his red hair is still dripping wet. As my reflex acted, I got a towel which is near the sink. I placed some already there, prepared if there are going to be accidents like before. Like a mother, I dried his hair for him. Wait, did he sleep again in the bathtub or something? Has he been in the tub even before I was doing my business? Oh nevermind.

There is a drop flowing through his jaw line. With my forefinger, I dried it and tracing his perfect jaw line in the process. We stayed silent for a while. I couldn’t help but to stare at him as he stared back at me with his innocent eyes. He is beautiful. How could just a heartless being throw him in a street like that?

“Hae? Is… some… something wrong?”

I snapped back to reality when he asked me. What are you thinking Lee Donghae? Don’t misinterpret things.



You just pity him.

“Uhm, it’s nothing. Let’s go.” I said, taking his hand and softly drag him out of the bathroom I wouldn’t care if he’ll try to knock me out or throw me in the air. I’m just out of my mind I guess.

I give him clothes and let him wear it.

“Just come to the kitchen when you are done.” I said to him. I shook my head. I must be out of my mind seriously.


A bit later, after finishing cooking pan cakes, he came down. Like everyday, he wouldn’t eat or else he’ll just throw it all up. I wonder what’s wrong with him.

While eating breakfast with him just drinking strawberry milk as usual, we were watching television for a morning show.

“Puhahahahaha~”

I look at him who was sitting in opposite me and he seems enjoying the show, laughing at their corny jokes. It was the first time I hear him laugh. I couldn’t help but to be amaze by him. I stared at him for a bit observing his reaction. I then notice a drop of milk staying in the side of his lips.

“Hyuk…uyu…” I said and he faced me obviously not getting what I meant. I cupped his cheek and then slowly rub that milk off him with my thumb. Why does he always mesmerize me with his innocence? I shook my head and let go. I tried to concentrate my gaze back to the TV. ('uyu' means 'milk' remember?)

“…thank you.” I heard him spoke.

I look at him and smiled, “Aniyo, it’s okay…”

I glance back to the TV trying to watch again. Currently, it was showing a commercial of Lotte World Amusement Park.

“Ooh~” I heard him mumbled. I look at him again and his gummy smile showing again while looking at the TV.

“Do you want to go there?” I asked. He look at me a bit hesitant. He bit his lower lip before nodding. Thinking about it, he didn’t really get to go out of the house for a week. Maybe going there wouldn’t hurt much?

“Good Morning…” I look back and saw Leeteuk hyung with a box again of cartons of Strawberry milk.

“When did you get here hyung?” I asked.

“Is that how you greet your hyung?” He pouted at me as he put the box in the table.

“Good Morning…” Eunhyuk smiled. I can’t help but to smile along. He’s starting to change a bit and loosen up, especially his poker face. All I could think of is how can he deserve to be dump like that? He doesn’t deserve any cruelty.

“Kyah, Uyu is so adorable.” And before I could stop Leeteuk hyung, he already hugged Eunhyuk into himself.

“Geez, hyung, you’re pedo trait is showing again.” I rolled my eyes.

PAK!

Ouch! I look at my back while rubbing the back of my head and I was right. It was Kangin hyung.

“How can my dongsaeng be like that?” Leeteuk hyung pouted as he seated beside Eunhyuk and Kangin hyung seated beside him.

“So what are you planning for today? Don’t tell me you’re going to stay here in the house the whole day?” Leeteuk hyung asked.

“I don’t know hyung. Eunhyuk seems to want to go to Lotte World Amusement park.” I admitted while looking at Eunhyuk who busily watching the show and still sipping his strawberry milk.

“I guess, Eunhyuk got tired of staying in the house. We should go then… I think it will help you to relax too.. I know you are pressured with every day work.” Leeteuk hyung suggested. Well, it isn’t really bad. I guess going to the amusement park is something refreshing.

“But we should shop first for his things. He is using your things right?” Kangin hyung added. I agree, he is using my things. I don’t mind it but then Eunhyuk can’t use my things forever. Not that I’m saying he’ll stay with me forever…

“Hae?”

I mean come on… his family might be looking fro him…

“Donghae!”

But what if he has no more family… what if…

“Lee Donghae!”

“What hyung?” I quickly snapped to reality when Leeteuk hyung basically shouted at me near my ears. Geez, it hurts.

“Eunhyuk~” He pointed at Eunhyuk who’s sitting in opposite of me. Omo! Eunhyuk must have hold on tight with his drink that he had squish it and spurted the milk into him. Men, for a thin man he is quite strong. Now all milk was all over his face and hair too.

“Come here..” I said to him as I led him to the sink in the kitchen.

“Here…” Kangin hyung followed us to give a towel and then he left. I wetted it and started to wipe the milk of his face so he wouldn’t get sticky. His eyes were close as I do my business. He looks so peaceful whenever his eyes were close. I like that peacefulness. I wish I have that too.

“I’m sorry…” Here he goes again.

“Hyukkie, it’s an accident. You don’t have to be sorry in everything. If you do something bad and you meant it and it might hurt others, that’s the time you will say sorry. It’s only an accident so no need to be sorry, okay?” I explained to him.

“Hyukkie?” He asked me. Wait, did I just call him Hyukkie? He might not like it. I’m in trouble.

“Oops, sorry.. I’m sorry…” I said. I was afraid he might toss me in the air again.

“Aniyo.. I was just surprise how you called me.” He said.

“Ah… here.. done…” I said to him.

“Thank you…” He smiled. Ah, so adorable. Hmm, maybe we should really go. I want to enjoy too for this day.

“Do you really want to go to the amusement park?” I asked him. He look up to me with eyes that is asking ‘really?’. I nodded and then his gummy smile showed again. Definitely it was a yes.

“But we’ll shop first for your things then go there. Arasso?” He nodded at me excitedly. Maybe he really wanted to go after all.

“Teukkie hyung, Kangin hyung, you’ll come with us right?” I shouted so that Leeteuk hyung, who is in the dining area with Kangin hyung, could hear.

“Yeap!” He shouted back. Great, that settles everything.

“We’ll just get ready.” I shouted again. I lead Eunhyuk back to the room. I laid out some casual clothes in the bed for him to use. Actually, it was just a plain white t-shirt, a sleeveless black hoodie and a pair of jeans.

“Here wear this… I’ll just take a bath.” I said to him pointing to the clothes in the bed. I went to the bathroom and took a shower. After a good 20 minutes, I am done. As I wet back to the room, there he is already clothed with what I gave him.

“You go to Leeteuk hyung. I will follow later. I said. He left and went out. I hurriedly put my clothes on, just a yellow branded shirt with a pair of jeans. I followed downstairs and I couldn't believe what I saw.


"Puhahahahahahaha~"


":err: What are you looking at?" I asked. Leeteuk hyung and Eunhyuk were sitting together holding something like a book.


"Hi, there you are... How come you never showed Uyu these pictures?" Leeteuk hyung asked.


"Pictures?" What is Leeteuk hyung talking about. Wait... What?! Pictures?! Not my baby pictures.


"ARGH! NOT MY BABY PICTURES!" I shouted as I quickly went to them and get the photobook.


"HYUNG?!" I exclaimed. I really don't like people staring at my baby pictures.


"What?! I just showed him some to kill time waiting for you." Leeteuk hyung told me in-a-matter-of-fact tone. Aish! How could he? He's my hyung. He should know about these things.


"It's embarassing..." I muttered as I put the photobook back to the shelf where I usually hide it.


"No it's not.. It's cute right Uyu?" Leeteuk asked. I look at him waiting for his answer. In someway, I am anticipating what he'll reply. He look at me, puffing his cheeks with air and then shyly nodded. Okay, I got to admit. He's cute.


"Now, come on and don't be so in daze Hae, Kangin is waiting for us in his car." Leeteuk hyung said standing up and then released his high-pitch laugh. Now I wonder what's that laugh for?


"Come Uyu!" He said and softly dragging Eunhyuk with him to go to Kangin hyung's car. Now, it's my turn to puff my cheeks with air and followed them with a pout visible on my face.


We used Kangin hyung’s car and drove first to the mall. There we shop clothes for Eunhyuk. Pants, underwear, t-shirts, hoodies and a bit of polo shirts, we brought those for Eunhyuk. Though he kept on just gazing everywhere, he doesn’t mind any kind of t-shirt prints as long as it fits him he is fine with it.

At lunch, we ate first but Eunhyuk didn’t as usual.

“I might just throw it up again.” He reasoned out.

“Uhm, do you have Strawberry milk?” I then asked the waiter who’s taking our orders.

“Only strawberry milkshake sir…” The waiter answered politely. I look at him and like reading my mind, he nodded as his answer.

“Then one strawberry milkshake will do.” I said.

“You don’t eat anything Uyu? Seriously?” Leeteuk hyung exclaimed after still not believing Eunhyuk hadn’t eaten yet since the day I saw him. Well, I am worried to. He might get sick or something. Wait, is he sick or something?

“Maybe we should let you have a check-up.” Leeteuk hyung suggested.

“I don’t think it’s really necessary.” Kangin hyung protested.

“Waeyo?” Both of us look at him.

“Well, it doesn’t really affect his health right? He just throw it up unlike if he is just drinking. Maybe he has some genetic problem… er or some birth disorder that doesn’t require him to eat. Plus, he can live even not eating right.” Kangin said.

“Eh? How come you know much about genetic problem than me when you are a veterinarian?” Leeteuk hyung pouted sat back comfortably in his seat.

“Well, my profession is still connected to yours…”

“But-“

“Here’s your order.”

Before Leeteuk hyung could protest, the food arrive already and we ate. After eating lunch, we headed straight to the Lotte World Amusement Park. I gaze at Eunhyuk and he is like a kid excited for what may come next. He kept looking around, analyzing everything around him. I was really cute view for me. Staring at clowns and laugh innocently at their stupid acts. He looks like a curious kid who wants to learn many things. A cute one I’d say.

We rode a few ride first, not the scary one. Err, you know what I mean right? But when he heard the screaming from the people who are riding the roller coaster, he keeps on pointing at them.

“You want to ride that?” I asked unbelievably. Like a kid, he nodded so excitedly.

I look at Leeteuk hyung and Kangin hyung who nodded saying they don’t mind riding as well. We fall in line in that ride. There were sure a lot of people trying it out. Finally, it was our turn. He quickly run to the seat and excitedly looks at me. I check first if he is buckle up and then I buckle up myself as well.

“Oooh~” He said, quite excited. Leeteuk hyung and Kangin hyung sat behind us. When everything is okay now, the ride started to go. Some of the riders where screaming already even if the ride isn’t really yet to the fullest.

“Aaah!” I chuckled as he tried to shout as well. He is adorable.

While waiting for Leeteuk for Leeteuk hyung and Kangin hyung who went to grab us drinks, we were currently standing in front of an antique shop inside the Lotte World. I was just sending messages to some of my officemates to remind hem about the meeting tomorrow. I glance by Eunhyuk who seems to be engrossed with the things displayed in the antique shop.

“What are you staring at?” I asked him.

“Monkey toy?” He said, more like asking me. I look at it and it was a music box with a circus monkey with cymbals on each hand.


(actually, I’m imagining the music box in the Phantom of the Opera, I don’t know if it’s really this picture but I think it is.)

“UYU! HAE!” Leeteuk hyung called us. He was waving at us, telling us to come now.

“You go on ahead. I’ll just do something…” I instructed him. He just nodded with no but nor complains. He run to them. I stared at the monkey music box again. I don’t know.. but I have an urged to buy it.

We were currently falling in line to ride the Perris Wheel. Leeteuk hyung said it will be a great last ride for this day. Eunhyuk was surveying the Perris Wheel when I glance at him. He is one curious fella. It was only two person per ride so definitely Leeteuk hyung and Kangin hyung will go together. That lives me and Eunhyuk together. As we ride the Perris Wheel, Eunhyuk just kept staring at the scenery that the Perris Wheel could let you see. Amazing! Especially seeing the night view of Seoul with all the light lit up but I couldn’t help but to just stare at him. How he pointed at the little things he notices. How he smiled at the scenery lay in front of him. How he smile towards it, showing his gummy smile.

Ah, I must be getting crazy. How could his simple acts be so adorable?” I glance at my side. Oh, I almost forgot.

“Uyu, here…” I gave the paper bag I carrying along. He stared at me questioning look as he got it from me. Slowly, he open it and took the thing to reveal itseft.

“Monkey toy?” He said looking at the music box we saw earlier in the antique shop.

“no Uyu, it’s a music box. look~” I said as I transfer to sit beside him. I twist the ladle and the music box started to play a tune while the monkey started to move and even played its cymbals according to it tune. I could see a smile forming in his face, his gummy smile to be exact. Unknowingly to me, I already put my arm in the headdress that is around us and it seems like my arms are around him if he will lean his back to it while observing him. He closed his eyes and carefully listen to the tune. Suddenly he started humming to it. The music stop and then he opened his eyes.

Slowly he turned his head to me,

“Thank you… Donghae… for… everything…” He smiled at me.

“You’re welcome…” I smiled back.

For sometime, we stayed silent while looking at each other. I could really see his red luscious lips, I wonder what it taste like.

“Donghae?”

“Neh?”

“Uhm~”

Omo, I just did not trace his lips. That’s when I realized too we are inches apart. I mean our faces were 3 inches apart. Oh men, so embarrassing. I quickly went back to my original sit.

“Uhm… sorry…” I said rubbing the back of my neck. Men, it’s really embarrassing. What are you thinking Lee Donghae! YAH!

“It’s okay…” He smiled at me and then looked at the scenery once again, still holding on the monkey music box possessively. I chuckled silently seeing him like that, so possessive..

We were currently driving home when he fell asleep. Still the monkey music box was possesively wrapped by his hands. I couldn’t really help but to stare at him. I removed the strands of the hair blocking his face and stared at his peaceful sleeping face.

Someone to take care of is a nice thing to happen. I wonder if I can continue to take care of him.

Suddenly he budged, and then his head landed to my shoulder. A sigh escape my mouth.

I’m sorry, but can I be selfish and make him mine?
